Who was walking the streets of York back in the 13th century? When we came back from that ancient English city, we brought with us a blend of Viking history and urban modernity, and the York was born. The stitching runs right around the boot, where the upper meets the sole, and in khaki you can read it clearly: the thread sits a shade lighter than the leather and marks the border between the green and the black serrated platform. It's a muted green with grey inside it, closer to a faded uniform than to bottle green. In direct light it opens up and shows the warm base of the Roma leather; indoors it closes down towards a dry khaki. The shaft rises to mid-calf over eight pairs of lace stations, keeping the bulk of the colour high up, which is where it registers. It works with navy and with black, no further discussion needed.
Who is YORK 1375 in khaki for?
For anyone who wears the same short palette all winter — black, blue, one green — and doesn't want a boot that breaks the agreement. Khaki acts as a neutral without being brown or grey, and that is exactly what's asked of it here. It goes with a technical anorak, a heavy sweatshirt and workwear. It handles wet cobbles and underground stairs twice a day.
Move Me
On a boot with this much visual mass, comfort comes down to whether the sole follows the flex or fights it. Softlight is a lightweight sole material, and Move Me cuts deep grooves into it along the axis where the foot actually bends, so the platform folds there and the ankle doesn't have to compensate. Going down stairs is where you notice it most. At the end of a long day the difference is measured in fatigue.
Materials and construction
The closure is a lace that adjusts along its whole length: metal eyelets low down, hooks up top, so you can tighten the instep and leave the shaft looser, or the other way round. 360º Stitched Strobel construction, with the perimeter seam holding it all together, and a Softlight sole with a serrated profile, 5 cm total height and a 1.5 cm slope. The upper is Roma leather, smooth with a little wax on the surface; in khaki, the rub of the lace leaves a visible mark on the flex zones after a few months. 100% microfibre lining and a chrome-free interior. The insole is removable and lifts out whole.
Size guide
Comfort last, wide across the forefoot, take your usual size. Roma leather gives little in width and a bit at the instep crease; the lacing covers the rest, and with a thick winter sock it's worth opening the top hooks before putting the boot on. High insteps do better with the first two pairs of eyelets slackened off.
